So after getting hooked up with a studio, I needed studio musicians! Besides making connections through the studio, I had to start finding places where Country musicians hung out. But of course, I didn't know where that was in Los Angeles! So I took to the internet! I was looking for fiddlers, drummers, guitarists, mandos, banjos, keys and pedal steel players. That's when I stumbled upon this guy, Joel Martin! On a popular musician's site he posted, "I play Pedal Steel" as his headline. It was like the clouds parted, the sun lit up my computer and I heard angels singing. I called Joel up and invited him to come into the studio and lay down on a couple tracks. Thinking that he would just bring his pedal, this guy showed up with his pedal steel, lap steel, guitar and bass. "Cause we never know when we will need them." And that's how most of our sessions have gone since. Joel will step into a session with all his tonal manipulators and we discuss "the feel" of a song. Show each other examples to get the creative juices going. Then he picks up an instrument and completely nails it. Joel is one of the coolest cats in L.A. And I'm blessed to work with him and consider him a great friend! Can't wait for you to hear him bend the strings and so much more on my tracks! Check out his band "The Empty Caverns" on Facebook. It's Joel on pedal steel and a pianist playing covers! I challenge you to start playing their tracks and NOT sing along. Check it out! You won't be disappointed.
